What is implantation?

Implantation occurs after 7-12 days after ovulation. The early embryo sinks in the endometrial lining and attaches to it. It is for nutrition and protection.

It takes about 12 hours for the invasion of the lining, and within 48 hours the egg moves inside the uterus lining.

Implantation leads to pregnancy. If implantation does not occur then, the fertilized egg can undergo chemical pregnancy. Pre-implantation failure leads to very early miscarriages.

Most women don’t even come to know that they were pregnant and thought that they have a period. The timing of implantation is soon after the division of egg into 64 cell blastocyst.

Two stages of implantation involve the moving in of the embryo cells into the outer lining. During the first stage, the cells soften the walls. And the second stage is when they penetrate the wall dissolving it. It is mostly the second stage where cramps occur, and bleeding follows.

There may be cases when women may confuse this heavy bleeding to be implantation bleeding. But implantation never leads to heavy blood flow.

Implantation cramps last for hardly few hours. The mildness of the twitching pain can be thought of as tingling and pulling sensation in the stomach.
